From April 6 through April 12, Waynesburg University’s Pathways Center celebrated National Library week with interactive campus events. Each event was a collaborative effort, connecting key areas of the Pathways Center to Library Services, one of several student supports at Waynesburg University. The week-long celebration highlighted library resources while showcasing key locations in Eberly Library.
Runway Royale: A Fashion Faceoff
The Career Development team hosted "Runway Royale: A Fashion Faceoff" in Eberly Library, showcasing one of the newest spaces in the building— the newly renovated Pathways Center. Runway Royale was an interactive fashion show with a competitive twist. Students were competing to win awards for “Best Designer” and “Best Model,” and all featured professional outfits were built using clothing from the University Career Closet.

Approximately 26 students, faculty and staff participated in this event, with four students modeling outfits put together by seven student designers. Models and designers were judged on a common rubric and winners were announced at the conclusion of the event. Freshman education major Katie Moody won “Best Model” and sophomore psychology major Karly Starcher won “Best Designer.”

During intermission, participants received professional dress resources and tips from the Pathways Center team. All models and designers received a $25 gift certificate to Waynesburg University’s campus store, The Nest. The winning model and designer each also received a $100 shopping spree.
This event was sponsored by Waynesburg University’s Purpose and Leadership Academy (PLA). PLA events are funded with grant monies from the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE). NetVUE is administered by the Council of Independent Colleges with generous support from Lilly Endowment Inc.
Poetry Slam
More than 20 students, faculty and staff engaged in a campus Poetry Slam, where participants read award-winning works as well as original submissions. This event was hosted collaboratively with the Writing Center to celebrate National Poetry Month in addition to National Library Week.

Students who read original works were awarded the following at this event:
- First Place: senior psychology major Abigayle Geisel – “Christ Like”
- Second Place: freshman political science major Rachel Arhin – “The Little Things”
- Third Place: senior psychology major Lauren Royesky – “Silence”
Each winner received a gift card donated by the Pathways Center team. Dr. Jamie Dessart, Dr. Amy Randolph and Dr. Bob Randolph from Waynesburg University’s Department of English & Foreign Languages served as judges.
Lattes with a Librarian
Instructional and Electronic Services Librarian Jill Peth connected with more than 30 students during this outreach event. Peth set up a mini-library at a table in Stover Campus Center to showcase Eberly Library’s popular books and resources while meeting students in a common space outside of the library. Students who participated in this event received a free small latte from the campus Starbucks.
In addition, this event promoted the library’s new Summer Selections program, which will enable the campus community to check out a book (or two) during the summer months, when they may have more time to read at a leisurely pace. Students, faculty or staff who are interested in checking out a book through this program can stop by the library circulation desk or contact Jill Peth for more information.

Eberly Library Raffle
Finally, throughout National Library Week, students who engaged with the library in any capacity were able to enter a raffle for a $25 gift card to The Nest. Some students actively participated in events, while others stopped by to study, check out books, thank a librarian or select a free gift card.
More than 25 students participated in the raffle and sophomore communication major Steven Trettel was selected as the prize winner at the end of the week.
