Waynesburg University students from the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science & Physics ranked No. 8 in the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC) Eastern Collegiate Programming Contest at the 39th CCSC Eastern Conference. The University’s team competed against more than 30 teams from across the eastern region.
Waynesburg’s student team included:
- Joshua DeFries, junior computer science major from East Aurora, New York
- Adam Gill, junior computer science major from Washington, Pennsylvania
- Mason Warner, senior computer science major from Frostburg, Maryland
The contest experience also looks great on their resumes. The ranking shows that WU students’ programming skills are very competent. In fact, our computer science students’ job placement has been 100% throughout the years.”
“I think our students represented the University very well,” said Dr. Elizabeth Wang, professor of computer science. “The contest experience also looks great on their resumes. The ranking shows that WU students’ programming skills are very competent. In fact, our computer science students’ job placement has been 100% throughout the years.”
The University has had the opportunity to send students to the CCSC Conference a total of three times, where the teams have routinely ranked within the top 10 in the Programming Contest.
Every year, the CCSC Eastern Regional Conference provides a regional platform for college and K-12 educators to exchange computing and computing curricula ideas and information. As part of the conference, undergraduate students have the opportunity to register their programming team to compete in the CCSC-Eastern Collegiate Programming Contest.
All teams competing in the contest are given the same set of problems to solve and are ranked on the number of problems solved and the amount of time spent solving those problems.
Given the opportunity to attend the conference in the future, students are hoping to score even higher in the coming years.
