It feels like only yesterday that we closed the Writing Center for summer break and walked off to enjoy the sun and warm weather. Over the summer, the Writing Center staff worked on firming up events, offerings, and resources for students. This year promises to be jam-packed with collaboration and fun events for all students. We’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited for the fall semester!
This year, like every year, we will celebrate Banned Books Week in late September. There will be a writing contest, fun prizes hidden around campus, and a general celebration of the written word. We love Banned Books Week so much that we try to stretch it out for an entire month. Be on the lookout for social media posts, flyers, and contest announcements!
We are also bringing back the Waynesburg Creative Writing Group in September. This fun and no-stress group is open to ALL Waynesburg University students. Writers of all levels and abilities are encouraged to join this drop-in group. Sessions will be held at the Writing Center (WC) on Wednesdays from 4 to 4:50 p.m., starting September 14. The group is a great way to carve out a little time each week for creative pursuits. Please join us!
As you embark on the new academic year, please know that the WC is here to help you with all of your writing needs. Did you know that we help students write lab reports, cover letters, history papers, and PowerPoint projects? We also assist with composition essays and every other assignment you can think of that involves writing! We’d love to work with you and meet you where you are in the writing process.
The majority of our sessions happen face-to-face in the WC. Still, we also offer e-tutoring appointments that allow you to send your paper to the tutor and receive written feedback, all without having to leave your cozy home. This is all to say, we are here to help you any way we can. Plus, we also offer complimentary snacks and coffee at the WC. What better way to spend a chilly autumn day than drinking coffee and chatting about your writing?
We open on Sept. 6 and can’t wait to welcome new and returning students to the WC. We hope to see you soon! Happy Fall 2022!
