Students to serve in Nassau, Bahamas

Education students will help teach kids in first through fifth grade

Ten students will travel to Nassau, Bahamas, during Winter Break to serve children at the E.P. Roberts Primary School. Led by Mary Hamilla, assistant director of the Educational Enrichment Program, and Kylee Sargent, help desk coordinator, students will serve from Saturday, Jan. 5, to Saturday, Jan. 12.

Students attending the trip will prepare lesson plans and teach primary school students in first through fifth grade; many of the attendees are early childhood education majors.

Sargent said she is looking forward to “seeing our students learn from each other and lean on each other for support while teaching in a new culture.”

  • Gabriela Gehner, junior early childhood education with special education major from Cincinnati, Ohio (Summit Country Day School)
  • Emalee Kublak, sophomore nursing major from Spring Mills, Pennsylvania (Penns Valley Area Junior-Senior High School)
  • Alexis Reed, junior nursing major from Leechburg, Pennsylvania (Evangel Heights Christian Academy)
  • Jessica Silbaugh, sophomore early childhood education with special education major from South Riding, Virginia (Freedom High School)
  • Emily Wagner, senior early childhood education with special education major from Garards Fort, Pennsylvania (Mapletown Junior-Senior High School)
