Waynesburg University’s Addictions Counseling Program was named a 2022 "Top 50 Master’s Counseling Program for Addiction Counseling" by Addiction Counselor, ranked at No. 4 in the country.

The ranking represents the second consecutive year Waynesburg’s program was recognized nationally.

We offer an immersive curriculum alongside experienced faculty, and many of our alumni of this program serve as leaders in the treatment of addiction and substance use disorders."

Dr. Devon Bowser, associate professor of counseling

“This recognition highlights Waynesburg University’s dedication to serving our community by offering a program of exceptional quality to individuals in the addictions counseling field,” said Dr. Devon Bowser, program director for the Masters of Arts in Counseling and the Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Education.

Addiction Counselor’s evaluation relied on net cost and affordability, students receiving financial aid, availability of online instruction, acceptance rate, retention rate, graduation rate and graduating salary.

Data was collected from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, College Scorecard, College Navigator, state and local governments, accrediting agencies and Payscale.

Waynesburg’s Master of Arts in Counseling is available 100% online and offers concentrations in both Addictions Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

The Addictions Counseling concentration provides graduates with the requirements for licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC) and prepares them to meet the requirements for the Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) certification.

“We offer an immersive curriculum alongside experienced faculty, and many of our alumni of this program serve as leaders in the treatment of addiction and substance use disorders,” added Dr. Bowser.

Waynesburg University’s Addictions Counseling Program was Pennsylvania’s first CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs) accredited program.
