Waynesburg University received a $35,000 grant from the Caroline Fredicka Holdship Charitable Trust through the PNC Charitable Trust Grant Review Committee to help move the Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) for 2nd Degree Program online.
The program is designed for students who hold a degree from an accredited college or university and wish to earn a BSN.
Grant funds will help alleviate the tuition for students in the program via scholarships. The funds will also cover some of the expenses of moving the program online and marketing.
Stacey Brodak, vice president of institutional advancement and university relations, shared that the time commitment and geographic limitations of potential students have impacted the decision to move the program online. Moving the program online would minimize the amount of time that students spend on campus attending lectures.
“Offering this program opens doors to serve students who want to become nurses in a field that is desperately in need of healthcare providers but who may be limited by time or location,” Brodak said.
This is the second grant from the Caroline Fredicka Holdship Charitable Trust that the University has been awarded. The first award helped to reduce tuition and attracted new students through alternative material delivery.
Waynesburg University’s Nursing BSN for 2nd Degree Program allows students who are called to serve in a healthcare setting to earn a BSN, even if they previously studied a different discipline. Students gain clinical practice and develop the academic background necessary for a successful healthcare career. Degree requirements can be completed in as little as three semesters and two summers.
