Waynesburg University will host an Out of the Darkness Campus Walk in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention on Saturday, March 23, 2024.
The event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to pre-register as individuals or as a team at the link below. Donations are accepted, and all proceeds go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
“We have a fundraising goal of $10,000,” Adrienne Tharp, assistant dean of student development and one of the event’s organizers said. “We are able to provide resources, trainings, speakers and more to campus and the Waynesburg community at no cost.”
The walk allows the campus and the surrounding community to gather and honor those who have lost their life, support those affected by loss and build awareness for suicide prevention.
“We’ve been doing this event for 7 years. We all have had our personal struggles and challenges and maybe experienced a loss. Everyone comes to the event to show their love and support for family and friends. It’s a celebration – it’s encouraging, fun, and provides hope,” said Tharp.
On-site registration for the event begins at 10 a.m. in the Waynesburg University Auxiliary Gym. The opening program begins at 11:30 a.m. The walk will follow a route around the campus.
While waiting for the walk program to begin, participants can visit campus student-led and local organizations that will provide resources and hold giveaways and activities.
