Waynesburg University’s Education Advisory Board has begun its second year of providing insights and advice to the University’s Department of Education for enhancements to its programs.
“The Waynesburg University Education Advisory Board was formed in 2023 and has become a key component of the Education Department's mission to improve and guide our education programs,” said Melissa Wood, certification officer and field placement coordinator at Waynesburg University.
Comprised of the University’s President, Provost, faculty members and current education students as well as experts in the field of education from the community, the Board’s primary purpose is to ensure the Department’s programs align to meet evolving educational standards, professional practices and students’ needs.
Over the academic year, the Board convenes two-to-three times to discuss curriculum enhancements, program development and strategies for the improvement of student outcomes. They also observe education classes on campus.
With the vision of preparing its students to become competent and compassionate educators who are equipped to meet the challenges of the field, the Department of Education is thankful for the vital role the Board now plays in helping them advance that vision.
“Waynesburg University emphasizes a mission-driven approach to education, focusing on leadership, service and academic excellence rooted in Christian values and lifelong learning,” Wood said. “The Education Advisory Board helps fulfill this mission by fostering close ties with stakeholders and ensuring that the Department remains responsive to societal needs and educational innovations.”
The Department of Education at Waynesburg University is accredited for its elementary, elementary/middle and secondary education programs through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
