Waynesburg University recently announced the 10 incoming freshmen students who will receive the County of Greene/West Penn Power Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year.
This $1,000 annual scholarship is awarded to qualified graduating seniors with the goal of at least one recipient from each of the five Greene County, Pennsylvania, school districts: Carmichaels Area, Central Greene (Waynesburg Central), Jefferson-Morgan, Southeastern Greene (Mapletown) and West Greene.
Recipients for the 2024-2025 academic year include:
- Addison Blair (Waynesburg Central High School), daughter of Charles and Natalie Blair of Waynesburg. She is enrolled as a nursing major.
- Alayna Simon (Carmichaels Area High School), daughter of James Wamsley and Kimberly Simon-Pratt of Carmichaels. She is enrolled as a forensic science major.
- Brynn Kirby (Waynesburg Central High School), daughter of Travis and Chastity Kirby of Waynesburg. She is enrolled as a nursing major.
- Colby Pauley (Waynesburg Central High School), son of Franklin and Tiffany Pauley of Waynesburg. He is enrolled as a business administration (finance) major.
- Erin Richmond (Mapletown High School), daughter of Roy and Kristi Richmond of Greensboro. She is enrolled as a communication (digital design) major.
- Kaylee Ayers (Waynesburg Central High School), daughter of Shane and Amy Ayers of Waynesburg. She is enrolled as an education (early childhood education) major.
- Keelan Sproat (Waynesburg Central High School), daughter of Bryan and Kristen Sproat of Prosperity. She is enrolled as a criminal justice major.
- Morgan Franks (Mapletown High School), daughter of Mike and Tracy Franks of Bobtown. She is enrolled as a criminal justice major.
- Nathan Bennett (Carmichaels Area High School), son of Barry and Renee Bennett of Carmichaels. He is enrolled as a business administration (finance) major.
- Theresa Eggleston (Jefferson-Morgan High School), daughter of Kevin and Joy Eggleston of Jefferson. She is enrolled as a nursing major.
In order to receive the County of Greene/West Penn Power Scholarship, student applicants must have a cumulative high school GPA of a 3.0 or higher and be accepted to Waynesburg University as a new, non-transfer student for the fall semester. They must also provide essay responses and submit a list of honors and activities for review.
The scholarship was first funded in 2008 with an agreement between Allegheny Energy (now FirstEnergy) and Greene County officials, and includes the name of FirstEnergy’s Pennsylvania subsidiary, West Penn Power.
