The On-Campus Employment Program at Waynesburg University offers experiential and educational learning opportunities that further encourage student growth. Students who work on campus have the opportunity to earn money while engaging in the campus community. On-campus positions offer flexibility for students who are working in addition to attending class and engaging in athletics, student activities, service opportunities, and more.
Students who qualify for Federal Work Study through the Financial Aid Office are prioritized in the hiring process. Many on-campus jobs are only available to students who qualify for Federal Work Study; however, positions with vendors as well as skills-based positions may be available for students who do not qualify for the Federal Work Study Program.
Waynesburg University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, age (over 40), or disability status as a Vietnam-era, qualified disabled veteran or other protected veteran, or status as a member of any other protected class under federal or state law in the educational programs or activities it offers, and is in compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

On-Campus Employment Policy
Eligibility
Any full-time student enrolled at Waynesburg University may apply for On-Campus Employment opportunities. Priority for interviews is granted to students who qualify for Federal Work Study through the Financial Aid Office. If you are unsure if you qualify for Federal Work Study, contact the Financial Aid Office to inquire.
Specific eligibility requirements will be outlined for each position in the posted job description. Some positions are skills-based and may require students to be in a specific major or to demonstrate a specific skill (design, writing, etc.).
All hiring is at the discretion of on-campus supervisors. As a result, students must complete an application and interview process to be considered for any position on campus.

Returning Student Workers
Returning student workers who intend to work in the same department as they have in a previous semester do not need to reapply for their position. However, returning student workers must submit the “Hired Students: Approval Form” (Linked in the “Student Employment” section on myConnect) each semester to ensure timely supervisor approval and payroll processing.
All students must submit the local form for tax purposes each year. Contact Shelley Younken at syounken@waynesburg.edu to complete the form.
Student Rights & Obligations
Students are responsible for meeting expectations outlined by their supervisor. Student employees should demonstrate strong work habits, including punctuality, humility, and accountability. Student employees should be dependable, courteous, and responsible for their work and their actions. As an employee, students are expected to conduct themselves professionally and to complete assigned duties in a timely and accurate manner.
Students are expected to submit an approval form each semester for continued employment. Students hired through the On-Campus Employment Program are considered part-time, seasonal employees. Therefore, they are not entitled to receive fringe benefits such as paid holidays, sick leave, or medical insurance.
Students are required to follow all guidelines outlined in Waynesburg University’s Keep Waynesburg Well plan. As such, students should not report to work when they are sick. Instead, students should notify their supervisor immediately to engage in an alternate plan for the shift, to adjust their schedule, or to take the day off depending on the student’s needs.
Work-Related Accidents
Students who are involved in accidents while working for Waynesburg University should notify their supervisor in a timely manner (within 24 hours). If medical assistance is needed, contact Health Services at 724-852-3332 or HealthServices@waynesburg.edu.

Work Schedule & Earnings
Under the supervision of a full-time Waynesburg University employee, students who are hired to work on campus may work up to 14 hours per week throughout the academic year. A limited number of departments may hire students to work extended hours based on the needs of the University. Overtime is not permitted. Available hours vary by position and term. As a result, hours will be communicated to students during the interview process. On-campus supervisors work with students to create a schedule that works around academic, athletic, and other obligations.
The Financial Aid Office determines the eligibility of students who qualify for Federal Work Study and potential earnings are listed in an award letter. Applying for on-campus employment is optional, even for students who qualify for Federal Work Study. As a result, earnings vary by student depending on the total hours worked for specific departments.
Students who are hired to work through the On-Campus Employment Program are paid an hourly minimum wage.
Summer
A limited number of departments require student employees during the summer term. Students who work throughout the summer may work up to 29 hours per week. Seniors may continue to work on campus for a limited time period following their Commencement.
Remote Work
In minimal circumstances, remote work may be possible. Remote work opportunities are determined by individual supervisors. Students who are permitted to engage in remote work should:
- Work with their supervisor to establish a weekly schedule
- Create a communication plan and stay in touch with their supervisor
- Set up a work space and create a routine
- Follow Waynesburg University internet policies and guidelines
- Prioritize time management by keeping track of dates and submitting work on time
Reporting Hours & Pay
Employees at Waynesburg University are paid once per month. Students are required to log daily hours by signing in and out of ADP during each shift. At the end of each month, the student’s supervisor must approve the hours in ADP by the prescribed deadline. Hours reported or approved late will not be paid until the following payday.
Students are encouraged to utilize direct deposit for payments. The direct deposit enrollment form is available in the “Student Employment” section on myConnect.
Issues Logging Hours
Students or supervisors who have issues logging or approving hours in ADP should contact the Business Office immediately to remedy the issue. Contact Shelley Younken at syounken@waynesburg.edu.
Resignation/Termination of Employment
Student employees may resign from on-campus positions at any time; however, adequate notice is requested. A two-week written notice is preferred. Students who resign without notice may not be eligible for future employment on campus.
If work-study eligibility changes, students are required to inform their supervisor. If the work-study eligibility is terminated, students may no longer meet the requirements for specific positions on campus. As a result, employment may be terminated due to budgetary limitations and work-study requirements.
If students do not meet the requirements of the position, they may be terminated by their work-study supervisor with written notice at any time.
When a student resigns or is terminated from their position, their supervisor should notify the Business Office within one month so that ADP can be updated. Contact Shelley Younken at syounken@waynesburg.edu.
Supervisor Expectations
Supervisors are expected to provide ongoing mentorship to student employees. As students continue to work at the University, they should be given additional opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. Additionally, supervisors are required to approve student hours on a monthly basis in ADP. Late submissions will result in delayed payment for students.
Supervisors are expected to follow the work-study process to ensure all needed documentation is provided to the University. This process includes:
- Submitting Job Openings to the Pathways Center’s Career Development Division
- Reviewing Student Applications as They are Submitted
- Applications will be emailed to supervisors as they are submitted in Handshake
- Prioritizing Federal Work Study Eligible Students Throughout the Application Process
- Setting Up Interviews with Candidates
- Note: All hiring is at the discretion of supervisors.
- Directing Students to Complete Required Documentation
- These documents are outlined in the “New Applicants” and “Returning Student Workers” section of this page.
- Submitting email approval to the Business Office upon receipt of the “Hired Students: Approval Form” confirmation email
New job postings are not required for returning student workers.
Supervisors are permitted to activate a Handshake account to have more access to comprehensive application information and job postings. This may ensure a more seamless application process for students, supervisors, and administrators. Questions about activating a Handshake account or the Application Process should be directed to Sarah Bell at sbell@waynesburg.edu.
Supervisors must not allow students to start working until their materials are processed and the Business Office adds the student to ADP. Supervisors may not delegate ADP approval to a different staff member within their department. More than one supervisor may be appointed for departments as needed; however, account log-in information should not be shared with co-workers. Individuals who are listed as the department supervisor are expected to engage in the application process, approve student hours, and report concerns to the Business Office, Human Resources, or the Pathways Center’s Career Development Division.
Supervisors are required to report ADP issues to the Business Office as soon as possible so that students can accurately log hours. Paper hour logs will not be accepted. Contact Shelley Younken at syounken@waynesburg.edu with ADP concerns.
Supervisors should familiarize themselves with the On-Campus Employment Policies to best support student employees within their department.
Supervisors who do not meet these expectations may be asked to recommend or designate a new supervisor within their department. The new supervisor may need to be approved by the department director or VP.
Termination or Resignation Reminder
When a student resigns or is terminated from their position, their supervisor should notify the Business Office within one month so that ADP can be updated. Contact Shelley Younken at syounken@waynesburg.edu.
Documenting Student Evaluations
Supervisors are expected to formally or informally evaluate student employees each year. Students may be evaluated each semester if needed. Evaluation includes providing feedback, affirming work well done, and identifying growth areas for students. Supervisors may use the sample evaluation form provided by Human Resources to complete the evaluation, or an informal evaluation recap can be posted in MUM. To post an evaluation recap in MUM:
- Log in to myConnect
- Click the “MUM” icon on the QuickLaunch Menu
- Search your student’s name in the search bar
- On the left-hand side of the student’s page, click “Record Contact”
- Select “Work Study” as the Care Area
- Click “Record Contact” when information is filled in
Supervisors should incorporate reflection and growth opportunities into the On-Campus Employment experience.
Employers: Reference Calls
Call the Business Office at 724-852-3403 to inquire about current or former student worker employment status. Employment status will be verified using ADP. The Business Office will contact the student’s department supervisor if additional information or a detailed job reference is needed for a current or former student employee.
