Healthcare management major added at Waynesburg

Matthew Stultz Jun 11, 2019

Waynesburg University’s Department of Business Administration will offer healthcare management, a new comprehensive major combining healthcare with business basics, beginning the fall of 2019.

“Healthcare management is a natural extension of our mission as a university founded on faith and service,” said Dr. Gordon McClung, professor of marketing and chair of the Department of Business Administration. “The alumni of Waynesburg University are predisposed to a life of service, and healthcare management provides an opportunity to pursue a career that draws on our alumni’s skill sets and affinity for service.”

The Healthcare Management Program is designed to prepare students for a variety of positions in healthcare administration and medical management.

Employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 20% from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all other occupations, according to information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Healthcare management provides an opportunity to pursue a healthcare career outside direct patient care,” added McClung. “Healthcare requires employees skilled in human resources, office operations, accounting, finance, management, marketing and data analysis.”

Courses for the new major will include the areas of business, economics, nursing, philosophy and biology; students will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (BSBA) degree.

The Department of Business Administration at Waynesburg University has received specialized accreditation for its business programs through the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE) located at 11374 Strang Line Road in Lenexa, Kansas, USA.
