This month, 31 Waynesburg University students will participate in service trips during fall break. Led by faculty and staff members, they will serve in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the local Greene County area, and Atlanta, Georgia.

Gettysburg National Military Park – Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Rea Redd, director of the Eberly Library, and Courtney Dennis, associate director of the Paul R. Stewart Museum, will lead 12 students on a trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, from Sunday, Oct. 15 to Thursday, Oct. 19. There, they will partner with Gettysburg National Military Park to engage in service projects on the battlefield and at the Daniel Lady Farm.

Dennis said this is the first Gettysburg service trip since Waynesburg officially adopted two battlefield monuments, giving the University a critical role in their maintenance.

Greene County Habitat for Humanity – Waynesburg, Pennsylvania

Adrienne Tharp, coordinator for the Bonner Scholar Program at Waynesburg University, will lead a team of six students to serve with Greene County Habitat for Humanity from Monday, Oct. 16 to Friday, Oct. 20.

While serving, the students will assist with building homes in the local area and address substandard housing issues.

Greene County Immersion – Waynesburg, Pennsylvania

Six students will be led by Kelley Hardie, assistant dean of student services, in serving Greene County from Sunday, Oct. 15 to Saturday, Oct. 21.

The group will be serving at locations across Greene County, including Cherry Door thrift store, the Greene County Historical Society, Corner Cupboard Food Bank, Saint Ann’s Good Neighbor Dinner Program, the local Senior Center and Ronald McDonald House.

The Dream Center – Atlanta, Georgia

Resident Directors Anthony Jarrell and Liz Diviney will lead seven students to serve at the Dream Center in Atlanta, Georgia beginning Monday, Oct. 16 until Sunday, Oct. 22.

This is the first year that Waynesburg students will serve at the Dream Center, a national organization of church-led non-profits. The group will be exposed to a variety of ministry opportunities in Atlanta.
