Graduate Assistantship – Writing Center

Number of Positions: 1
Anticipated Dates: Summer 2013 to 05/15/14
Job Description:
Position entails working 19 hours a week in the University’s Writing Center. The position involves both tutoring and administrative responsibilities. Tasks will be varied and diverse in nature, but all are related to the well-being and promotion of the Writing Center, its clients, its services and the Waynesburg University mission. In addition to conducting face-to-face and online tutoring sessions, the Graduate Assistant will also aid in the dissemination of information to tutors, in observing tutoring sessions, and in maintaining the professional atmosphere of the Writing Center. The graduate assistant will report to the Writing Center Director.
Duties include:

  • Administrative work (paperwork, filing, emailing)
  • Consulting with all levels of college students about any type of writing assignment
  • Aiding in tutor training
  • Assisting in preparation of training materials
  • Meeting with the Director weekly and in general staff meetings monthly
  • Aiding in preparation of educational materials
  • Assist in database management
  • Managing tutor communications via the Writing Center communications board and our Facebook page, as well as texting and calling tutors if the need exists
  • Helping to prepare and, at times, give class presentations
  • Assist in developing promotional materials.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the University
  • And any other projects / information the director identifies

Job Qualifications:
All interested candidates will need to successfully enroll in a graduate program at Waynesburg University in order to be eligible for the assistantship. Candidates must possess strong organizational, communication and computer skills; the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established work deadlines; and availability to work evenings, Sundays and occasional weekends.  The candidate must feel comfortable with writing and the processes surrounding it, but need not be in an English-related field, although candidates with English and/or English/education backgrounds are preferred.

Graduate Assistantship – Athletics Department

Anticipated Dates: Summer 2013 to 05/15/14
Job Description:
Waynesburg University Department of Athletics is seeking four qualified graduate students to assist staff and coaches with the day-to-day operations of the department. Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the direction of assigned athletic teams
  • Assist in the organization of practice sessions
  • Positional or event coach, as needed
  • Work in accordance with all staff members of the Athletics Department and Waynesburg University
  • Represent Waynesburg University Athletic Department in a positive manner
  • Recruit qualified student athletes to participate in the athletic program, as directed
  • Work with the Admissions Office to schedule appointments for prospective student athletes, conduct tours as directed by the Admissions staff
  • Conduct recruiting calls and mailings
  • Assist in the preparation of game and practice sites
  • Assist administration/staff in monitoring student athletes grades and activities
  • Possess the ability to communicate the mission of the University and the goals of the Athletic Department to student athletes
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the University
  • Comply with all rules affiliated with Waynesburg University and Division III of the NCAA
  • As directed, serve as an academic mentor and conduct academic workshops as directed
  • Provide support for current student leadership programs and initiatives, including FCA and activities held in conjunction with Student Services.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director

SOCIOLOGY ADJUNCT

Waynesburg University is seeking part-time, adjunct faculty to teach in the undergraduate Sociology curriculum on the main campus in Waynesburg beginning August 26, 2013.  Instructors are needed for the introductory Principles of Sociology, and the Cultural Differences in 21st Century America courses.  Teaching experience at the undergraduate/graduate level is desired.  A master’s degree in the appropriate or related field is required.  The candidate must be committed to the mission and purpose of Christian higher education.  Candidates must submit a CV (resume) and letter of interest, and the names, addresses, e-mails, and phone numbers of five references to:
