Major in Computer Science and Technology at Waynesburg University
Would you like a career in one of the top-salary, fast-growing careers in Computer Science and Information Technology? Then Waynesburg is the choice!
The Computer Science and Technology programs at Waynesburg University are designed to provide students with a broad-based coverage of the technological areas and also an in-depth study in a field of their choice. We prepare students for a profession in computers and technology by not only giving you the technological skills, but also the communication skills and the ethics needed to succeed in the fast-paced world of computers.
You will study areas of programming, database management, computer hardware, telecommunications, networking, systems analysis, Web-page design, and several others depending on the major you choose. As a senior, you will also conduct your own in-depth research in an area of your interest.
You Will Benefit From Our Hands-On Approach
Our students start producing meaningful programs within the first few weeks of their freshman year. Our beginning courses use the Java programming language, the choice for Web-based applications. As you grow in your expertise, you will also learn languages like C and C++. Other languages that are available for the student include Visual Basic and Prolog.
The computer hardware course is popular with students. You will learn how to take a computer apart, recognize the components, trouble shoot problems, and rebuild the computer, all in a laboratory setting.
Other courses, such as database management, also give you a hands-on approach to learning. In this course, students are encouraged to apply their database skills by designing and implementing a database for a non-profit community agency.
Our internship program offers students the ability to work at companies in and around Waynesburg, including Pittsburgh. You will receive valuable work experience as well as earn credits toward graduation.
Waynesburg University prides itself on the high level of technology it uses in computer laboratories and in classrooms on campus. Of course, all of this technology requires care. Computer Science and Technology Majors work hand-in-hand with college staff to keep the technology infrastructure running smoothly. Many of our majors work as lab assistants and network assistants, again gaining knowledge beyond the classroom.
